Console
Assemblage on salvaged wood board, Jenga pieces and styrofoam , 2024
17 X 39 IN
Litter #5
Science shows that we all have dormant cancer cells
littering Inside the
Pac-Man arcade consoles
Hanging Tough
like the overflow of ghosts
when the easy board
Turns shifty with stress
Too many blue, pink, orange and red to kill and they overtake yellow
Pac-Man
From all sides-
Game over.
Unless Pac-Man eats herbs,
fresh fruit, pops pill powers up and runs through!
Moving on to the next board
In my leukemia case,
these are the cells that don’t know how to die.
They litter
Blood, Bone and Marrow
GROW BIG
Lymph nodes
Unable to transition
They toxify the stream
Create barriers to immunity’s
safety secret passageways
I try to entice them out
Dry brush, acupuncture, yoga, prayer…
To suss them out
Remind them: “It’s OK to die, guys,
Look at those brain cells dying
Skin cells following-
Ohhh-
Victory!”
They take the bait for a little while
Run and hide when Pac-Man eats cherry, strawberry, goblins and 1UPs
And 1UPs and 1UPs
So many lives
Even when the outer Man wears out
He’s still alive
Inside Man strong, renewed
A legend in the corner of the screen
When it’s time to go home
high score
FOREVER
